Terms of Use

By downloading or using Even, you agree to these terms. They are meant to be simple and fair, and they are the licence agreement referred to on the App Store.

The app

Even is a stress tracker for iPhone. It reads health data you already record, computes a daily score from it, offers short sessions, and measures what those sessions did for you. It is provided for your own personal, non-commercial use.

Not medical care

Even is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, prevent or screen for any condition, and nothing in it is medical advice. Its readings describe patterns in data you recorded on consumer hardware, with the accuracy that implies.

Do not use Even to make a medical decision, to start or stop a treatment, or in place of care from a qualified professional. If a reading concerns you, or if low mood, anxiety or sleep problems persist, speak to a clinician. In an emergency, contact your local emergency service or a crisis line rather than an app.

Licence

We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use Even on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, redistribute or sell the app or its content, except where the law says you may.

Your account

Some features need an account, created with Sign in with Apple or with Google. Keep your sign-in secure, and use accurate information. You may delete your account at any time from the You tab, which removes your account, everything synced under it, and everything held on the phone. We may suspend or end access to an account being used unlawfully or in a way that damages the service for others.

Subscriptions and purchases

Even is free to download. The first run, the ninety-day read and your daily Even score are free to use. The session library, result capture, What works for you, Trends and cross-device history need a subscription, and there is also a one-time lifetime purchase.

• Everything is sold and processed by Apple through the App Store, under the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. We never see your payment details.
• Subscriptions renew automatically at the price shown on the App Store until cancelled. Payment is taken from your Apple Account at confirmation, and again within 24 hours before each period ends.
• Where a free trial is offered, any unused part of it is forfeited if you buy a subscription during it.
• Cancel at any time in Settings → your name → Subscriptions, at least 24 hours before the period ends. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
• Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us, at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Prices may change. A change to a subscription you already hold takes effect only after Apple has told you and you have accepted it, in the way Apple requires.

Health data

Even reads Apple Health data only with your permission, and only for its own health-related function. Health data is never used for advertising, never mined, and never disclosed to a third party for that party's own purposes. Detailed Health data does not leave your phone. The full account is in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

What the readings are

Every figure Even shows is computed from your own record, and the app is deliberately built so that it cannot state a claim it did not compute. That is a promise about honesty, not about precision. Consumer sensors are imperfect, sleep scoring is an estimate, and a reading taken from a fortnight of data is a reading taken from a fortnight of data. We make no warranty that any figure is exact.

Research cited in the app and on this site is published, peer-reviewed work. Citing it is not a claim that its authors or their institutions are connected with Even or endorse it.

Acceptable use

Use Even lawfully. Do not attempt to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to the service, to another person's account, or to data that is not yours.

Intellectual property

The Even name, design, artwork, text and software are owned by Aster Studio. The underlying science is, of course, nobody's property.

Disclaimer of warranty

Even is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We do not guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted or error free, or that any reading will be available on any given day.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Aster Studio will not be liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of Even. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, and nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer. Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction is to stop using the app.

Apple

Apple is not a party to these terms and has no responsibility for Even. Apple has no obligation to provide support for it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version is always on this page with the date above. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
